Bio

Hi I’m Matt Poitras and I’m the sole operator of MP Filmcraft. I have over 25 years experience creating & designing props & costumes. And I’ve also spent those last two decades as a documentary &  narrative filmmaker; having completed three documentaries, one feature film and a pilot episode for a future series.

I see myself as a pacifist although I’ve studied a lot about military history and wars. I have a passion for uniforms and military gear. My course of study throughout the years has been early Bronze Age up to modern times.

I got my costume design start and the early age of 19 while working at a costume shop in my hometown. It was there that I also found I had skills as a leather craftsman and made my primary living in the last two decades making movie and historical replicas from leather.

I don’t really care to say that I went to film school, but I did …and I know the 180° rule. haha.

Typically on each production I provide all aspects of cinematography, directing, editing, producing in addition to designing/building props and costumes.

I’ve done a lot of production work for my for my own projects as well as a few projects for others. I am currently looking to get into more production work just let me know if I can help you with your production in any capacity.
